Kentuckians
who qualify for free health care can receive
36 medications made by Bristol-Myers Squibb
free, Health Kentucky announced yesterday.
Participation in the
program by the pharmaceutical giant brings
to low-income residents such medications
as Pravachol, a cholesterol-lowering agent;
Glucovance and Glucophage XR, for type 2
diabetes; and Coumadin, a blood-thinning
agent.
"Bristol-Myers
Squibbs involvement means that Health
Kentucky patients have access to
innovative
medications that were unavailable to them
before," said J Scott Judy, executive
vice president for Health Kentucky, a nonprofit
coalition that strives to bring quality
health care to more than 200,000 Kentucky
residents who live below the poverty level.
Health Kentuckys
network already included six other pharmaceutical
companies.
Individuals who dont
have health insurance can call (800) 633-8100
to apply to Health Kentucky for one year
of eligibility.
