to announce a $20,000 grant award from the
Gheens Foundation of Louisville. Health

Work Award
Louisville, KY-Health Kentucky,
the parent program of the Kentucky Physicians
Care Network (KPC) is one of the recipients
of the Models That Work Grant
2004 Awards from the Foundation for a Healthy
Kentucky. Health Kentucky is preparing to
celebrate its twentieth year in 2004. Since
the inception of the KPC program over 200,000
needy Kentuckians have received access to

Pharmacy Providers Program Day
In recognition of
the pharmacists and pharmaceutical companies
who generously donate their expertise and
life-enriching medications to some 250,000
Kentuckians, Governor Paul Patton proclaimed
October 19, 2001, as Kentucky Pharmacy Providers
Program Day.
Monroe
E. Trout Premier Cares Award
The Kentucky Physicians
Care Program received the sixth annual Monroe
E. Trout Premier Cares Award from Premier
Care, Inc., an alliance of 800 hospitals
and health care organizations. The award
was presented during Premier Care's Governance
Education Conference in Orlando, Florida,
in February 1998. The Cares Award recognizes
exemplary efforts that make health services
accessible to the medically underserved.
Recipients are given a $50,000 cash award.
The Kentucky Physicians Care Program was
chosen from among 219 nominations by a panel
of national leaders selected from business,
academe, labor, medicine, public health
and consumer interests.
Citation of a Layman
for Distinguished Service
The American Medical
Association House of Delegates confirmed
the selection of then Gov. Brereton C. Jones
as the recipient of the Citation of a Layman
for Distinguished Service on June 24, 1990.
This is the highest award the AMA bestows
on a non-physician. The award recognizes
individuals not of the medical profession
who help achieve the ideals of medicine
by cooperation or aid in the advancement
of medical science, medical education or
medical care. Mr. Jones was the founder
of the Kentucky Health Care Access Foundation,
which is now Health Kentucky.
American
Medical Association's President's Citation
of Service to the Public
The American Medical
Association presented the Kentucky Medical
Association with its first President's Citation
on December 4, 1988, for the KMA's service
to the public through the Kentucky Physicians
Care Program.
Presidential
Citation for Private Sector Initiatives
The Kentucky Medical
Association was invited to the White House
on July 18, 1986, to receive the Presidential
Citation for Private Sector Initiatives.
This high honor was a result of the KMA's
development of and involvement in the Kentucky
Physicians Care Program.
