Health Kentucky is pleased
to announce a $20,000 grant award from the
Gheens Foundation of Louisville. Health
Kentucky will utilize the funds to underwrite
the Prescription Management portion of their
program.
Under Health Kentucky's,
Kentucky Physicians Care (KPC) Program,
patients can receive their prescriptions
free from an approved list of medications
after seeing a participating physician.
This has been a great benefit to the many
KPC patients across the state. Over 185,000
prescriptions have been filled since 1985
at a value of over $6 million dollars.
Similar programs have been
modeled across the country including South
Carolina, Georgia and Arkansas. To date
over 34,000 eligible Kentuckians have been
enrolled in the program. The prescription
management component is the most costly
portion of the program to operate. In
2003 almost 50,000 prescription medications
to needy Kentuckians were made available
through this model program. The generous
grant from the Gheens Foundation as well
as gifts from other private sources will
help assure the continuation of this vital
service.
