Uninsured Kentuckians, health
care providers, donors can learn
more about statewide organization that provides
access to free health-care services
LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb.
21, 2002 Health Kentuckys
newly developed Web site www.healthkentucky.org
provides valuable information about
a statewide organization that helps uninsured
Kentuckians access free health care.
"Health Kentucky
has been something of well-kept secret since
its inception 17 years ago," said J
Scott Judy, executive vice president of
Health Kentucky. "Our new Web site
is another way we can let Kentuckians know
what we offer. The site makes it easy for
patients to find out how to qualify for
and use the program. We offer information
to health-care providers who currently volunteer
their services, as well as to those who
might want to do so. We also hope the general
public will visit as site so they can help
spread the word to family and friends who
might benefit from Health Kentucky. And
donors can learn about a variety of ways
to lend their support."
In addition, the Web
site offers profiles on the many health-care
organizations and providers who work with
Health Kentucky to care for thousands of
Kentuckians each year. The site also answers
frequently asked questions, relates success
stories from satisfied patients, gives a
brief history of the organization, offers
speakers bureau information, gives
a listing of board members and staff, and
provides the latest news
and publications.
Since 1984, Health
Kentucky has coordinated access to free
health care for thousands of citizens who
do not qualify for government programs and
cannot afford health insurance. Individuals
can call 800-633-8100 to apply to
Health Kentucky, a statewide, non-profit
organization. Once a person is approved,
he or she remains eligible for one year
to visit volunteer doctors, dentists, hospitals,
home health agencies and hospices, and obtain
free prescriptions donated by pharmaceutical
companies. An individual can reapply for
another year of eligibility at the end of
the first year.
